Spanish National Football Team

Despite consistently fielding some of the world's finest footballers, Spain's national football team has never lived up to expectations. A history of underachievement includes never making it past the quarter-finals in a FIFA World Cup and only one noteworthy performance in the UEFA European Championship – winning the 1964 tournament. In its favour, Spain did claim Gold in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The current Spanish squad, led by Luis Aragonés, features a star line up of players including Fernando Torres, Raúl, David Villa, Cesc Fabregas and Andrés Iniesta. Football Betting

Manager: Luis Aragonés

Aragonés is a Spanish player turned coach, renowned for the success he achieved playing for and managing La Liga giant Atlético Madrid. During his time with the club it won four La Liga titles, an Intercontinental Cup and was the runner up in the European Cup. With its history of disappointments, managing the Spanish national side is a challenging task for even the most experienced coach. Since his appointment in 2004 he has only achieved lukewarm results, but the side was strong in Euro 2008 qualifications and should be a serious contender for the title.

Stadium: Santiago Bernabéu

The Spanish national football team utilises Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu stadium for the majority of its home fixtures. With a capacity of 80,000, the ground is one of the most famous football stadiums in the world. It has hosted a list of high-profile football events including the 1964 European Championship and the 1982 FIFA World Cup Final.

Spain Euro 2008 Preview

After finishing at the top of Group F in the Euro 2008 qualifying, Spain must be confident of its chances to lift the trophy. It would put an end to over 30 years without a championship and an era of constant underachievement. Its Group D draw for the final tournament in Austria and Switzerland includes current champions Greece, as well as Sweden and Russia. Russia is the least likely to pose a threat to the Spaniards. Sweden was impressive in qualifying and you can never discount the unpredictable Greeks. The question on everyone's mind is can Spain live up to the occasion or will fans be left disappointed yet again?
