Manager: Gustavo Costas
Costas began his career with Racing Club as a player in 1982 and was capped 298 times over a 10 year period. In 1999 he rejoined Racing as co-manager with Humberto Mashio, which lasted for just a year. Over the next six years he led Alianza Lima (Peru) and then Cerro Porteno (Paraguay) to win their respective championships. He rejoined Racing as sole manager in 2007. Stadium: Estadio Juan Domingo Perón Completed in 1950 and nicknamed Avellaneda's Cylinder, the Estadio Juan Domingo Perón (The President Juan Domingo Peron) stadium has a capacity of over 64,000 people. It is home to Racing Club, one of Argentina’s most celebrated and famous football teams. Racing Club - 2007/2008 Season The club’s victory in the 2001 Apertura was the first in 35 years. Since then it has mainly lingered in mid-table obscurity in both the Apertura and Clausura, with the 2007 season being no different. New coach Gustavo Costas has done wonders for other South American teams, but he stepped in at a challenging time and instant results were not possible. Look out for a more dynamic and effective team heading into 2008. Racing Club’s Recent Silverware (1990 onwards) Apertura: 2001 |
