NFL - Patriots coast home against Raiders

The 2005 NFL season kicked off on Thursday night with the defending Super Bowl champion the New England Patriots proving a class above the Oakland Raiders. Bill Belichick's champs ran out 30-20 winners at Gillette Stadium with Tom Brady and Corey Dillon doing the damage for the home team.

The "Brady Bunch" is aiming to become the first team in Super Bowl history to win three consecutive titles and the first to win four titles in five years.

Tom Brady threw for 306 yards as the Pats went to the air from the opening plays. It was the ninth 300-yard passing game for two time Super Bowl MVP.

The Raiders picked up the first points of the game with quarterback Kerry Collins and new recruit Randy Moss instrumental as the Raiders led 7-0 after their opening drive but it was the Patriots who led 17-14 at halftime on touchdown passes by Brady.

The Champs turned on the power in the second half as Collins and Moss became non factors while New England raced away with their first win of the season.
