Manager: Rafa Benitez
Rafael Benitez Maudes, or Rafa Benitez for short, joined Liverpool in 2004 after a highly successful stint with Valencia CF. He is only one of three managers to win the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League in two successive seasons and the only one to do so with two different clubs. Benitez is contracted to manage the club until at least 2010, after signing a new four year deal in 2006. Stadium: Anfield Anfield has been Liverpool Football Club’s home since the club was founded in 1892. The ground is rated 4-stars by UEFA and can seat just over 45,000 fans. Although Anfield has a rich history and is engrained in English football culture, the club is following its rivals and is currently preparing to begin construction on a new Stanley Park Stadium scheduled to be ready by 2010 and will hold around 60,000. Liverpool - 2008/2009 Season Liverpool have been the busiest of the Big Four over the offseason, signing striker Robbie Keane, as well as two fullbacks: Andrea Dossena (left) and Philipp Degen. The arrival of Robbie Keane from Tottemham is a huge boost for The Reds, who along with Torres give them one of the most formidable strike-forces in the Premiership. Benitez also took the opportunity to lighten the load, transfering Peter Crouch, Harry Kewell, Sebastion Leto and John Arne Riise. The biggest blow to their title hopes will be lack of budget, an example of which was their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry which ended in disappointment after Villa held out for £18 million, a fee the club could not afford. The Reds are the most successful club in English football history, but haven’t won the Premiership in 18 years – something they will desperately hope to change this season. They may not be the pick of the litter, but they’re definitely looking stronger.
