In the past decade the French National Football Team has become a top competitor on the world stage. Since winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup on home soil, France went on to win the Euro 2000 Tournament, the 2001 and 2002 Confederations Cup and finish second to Italy in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The squad has always been dominated by intense personalities such as football legends Eric Cantona and Zinedine Zidane, as well as the eccentric goalkeeper Fabien Barthez. All have been instrumental in its success. Thierry Henry is currently the nation's most prolific goal scorer of all time. Football Betting

Manager: Raymond Domenech

Domenech is a former professional French footballer with eight national appearances. He graduated from ten years of managing the French Under-21 side to replace Jacques Santini after the country's quarter-final exit from the Euro 2004 tournament. His unorthodox management style was initially a source of concern and distrust from both players and fans, but France's 2006 FIFA World Cup performance (runners up to Italy) silenced his doubters and his contract was immediately renewed by the French Football Federation. His next big challenge is making it through the "Group of Death" (Group C) in the Euro 2008 final tournament.

Stadium: Stade de France

Inaugurated in 1998 and located in Paris, Stade de France is the country's national stadium. It is used to host international fixtures for football and rugby, as well as other major sporting events and entertainment spectacles. It was the venue for the 1998 FIFA World Cup Final and the 2007 Rugby World Cup Final. Stade de France is a UEFA 5-star rated facility with a capacity of 80,000.

Euro 2008 Preview

After a less than ideal Euro 2008 finals draw (Group C with Italy, Netherlands and Romania), France will have to play its best football to make it to the last eight. France ran hot and cold in qualifying, defeating World Cup rivals Italy 3-1 in Paris, but suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Scotland, and only securing its place in the final by a narrow two point margin over the Scots. In its favour, the French side has an excellent record against the Azzurri, and apart from penalties it has not lost a game to Italy since the 1978 World Cup. Both the Netherlands and Romania are dangerous, but an in form French side should be too much for either.
