Boca Juniors is one of two superstar clubs in Argentina. The other is River Plate. Founded in 1905, it shares the prestigious record of 17 international titles with Italian Serie A giant AC Milan and locally Boca has won 22 Primera División championships. Russo is a former player turned coach who spent his entire career as a midfielder with Estudiantes de La Plata. He briefly played for the Argentinean national team, but a string of injuries hampered his international aspirations. As a coach he has enjoyed success with Estudiantes, Lanús, Vélez Sarsfield and a handful of other South American and European teams. Since joining Boca Juniors in late 2006, he has led the club to second place in the 2007 Clausura and victory in the 2007 Copa Libertadores.
