Match Result (Money Line or Head to Head)

A straight two-way competition, usually without the draw being offered. If the event is drawn or otherwise tied the dead heat rule applies and bets are paid at half face value of the ticket.

Example: Rugby Union (Decimal Odds)

Selection Win
England 1.27
France 3.90

If you bet $10 on England to beat France and England win, your return is $12.70

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 1.27 = $12.70
1x2 (Coupon or Match Result with Draw)

A straight three-way competition, with the draw being offered.

Example: Soccer (Decimal Odds)

Selection Win
Aston Villa 1.88
Newcastle United 4.30
Draw 3.35

If you bet $10 on the Draw at 3.35 and the game is drawn after 90 min (including injury time), your return would be $33.50

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 3.35 = $33.50
Margin

Margin betting allows you to select a margin of points a team can win by. A winning range is usually offered. Team A by 1 to 12 points, the winning margin must fall in this range for your bet to win.

Example: Rugby Union (Decimal Odds)

Selection 1-12 13+ Draw
England 3.00 2.25 26.00
France 4.75 12.00 -

If you bet $10 on France at the 1-12 point margin at 4.75 your return will be $47.50 if France beat England by between 1 and 12 points.

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 4.75 = $47.50
Over/Under (Totals)

Over/Under (OU) or Totals are the combined scores of both teams involved in a bet. You can bet whether the game will go "over" or "under" this figure.

Example: Soccer (Decimal Odds)
Liverpool is playing Arsenal and the total posted for the game is 2.5.

Selection Over/Under
Liverpool O 2.5 1.82
Arsenal U 2.5 2.08

If the final score is Liverpool 1, Arsenal 1, the total game score would be 2. If you bet $10 on Under at 2.08 your return will be $20.80.

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 2.08 = $20.80
Outright (Futures)

Known as Outrights and Futures. These include event types such as:
  • To win the US Open
  • To win the World Cup Final
Example: Rugby Six Nations Champions (Decimal Odds)

Selection Win
France 1.72
Wales 5.00
England 6.00
Ireland 7.00
Scotland 34.00
Italy 101.00

If you bet $10 on England to win the Six Nations Championship at 6.00 and England win your return would be $60.00

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 6.00 = $60.00
Exotic Singles

Each type of sport has its own Exotic Single bet types. These include bet types such as:
  • Correct Score
  • Half Time – Full Time Doubles
  • First Goal Scorer
  • Game Totals
  • Set Betting
  • Half Time Result
  • 1st Scoring Play
  • 1st Team to Score
  • 1st Score
  • Highest Run Scorer
Live 'In Play'

You can bet on selected events whilst the game is in progress. Watching the game live, and bet on every twist and turn of the game. Live betting usually consists of the following bet types:
  • Head to Head
  • Coupon
  • Line (Handicap)
  • Asian Handicap
  • Over / Under (Totals)
The odds for each team to win are adjusted in play. The odds displayed on the website, are the odds at that particular point in time during the game.
Handicap (Line or Spread)

Each team receives a handicap of plus or minus points to reduce the game to an even competition. A team with a minus handicap must win the event by more than the handicap for your bet to win. A team with a plus handicap can win the game or must not lose the event by more than its handicap for your bet to win. Line handicaps usually contain a ½ point i.e. 4 ½ so that a drawn outcome is not possible.

Line betting can increase the odds of the favourite and can also provide an opportunity to win on the team that loses the game outright.

Example: Rugby Union (Decimal Odds)

Selection Line
France -9.5 1.90
England +9.5 1.90

If you bet $10 on France on the 1.90 line at -9.5 your return will be $19 if France beats England by more than 9.5 points.

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 1.90 = $19.00

or

If you bet $10 on England on the 1.90 line at +9.5 your return will be $19 if England win the game or lose the game by less than 9.5 points.

i.e. stake of $10 x the odds of 1.90 = $19.00
Buy Points – American Football & Basketball

Buy Points moves the spread (pointspread) so you give away fewer points with the favourite or get more points with the underdog. This bet type is available for American Football (pro and college) and Basketball (pro) only. To do this, you must pay an extra 10 cents per ½ point.

For NFL, there is no buying off 3 (from +3 to +3.5 or higher, or from -3 to -2.5 or lower) and there is no buying through three (from +2.5 to +3.5 or the reverse -3.5 to -2.5).

Example: NBA
Denver Nuggets are 10.5 point favourites. To move the line to -10 points (from -10.5), you would buy ½ point and pay extra 10 cents (now you lay $120 to win $100, whereas at -10.5 points you would have laid standard odds of -104 to win $100).
Asian Handicap - Soccer

Asian Handicap is a bet type designed to even out the soccer game for betting purposes, and eliminate the draw.

The Handicap
The handicap is given in an attempt to make the two teams equal for betting purposes. The Handicap is given as head start to the underdog, so they have a virtual lead in the game. For example with 1/2 goal (0.5), 1 goal (1), etc.

For betting purposes, the winning team is decided on the final score, after 90 minutes (normal time) after taking the handicap into account.

There are two types of Asian Handicaps, namely, Single Handicaps and Split (Double or Quarter) Handicaps.

Negative Handicaps (Given to the Favorite)
A negative or minus handicap is given to the team considered more likely to win (the favorite). The favorite has to overcome the indicated handicap and will have it taken away from its final score. The handicap for the favourite is preceded by a minus (-) sign.

Positive Handicaps (Given to the Underdog)
A positive or plus handicap is given to the team considered less likely to win (the underdog). The underdog is given a head start, and will have the handicap added to its final score. The handicap for the underdog is preceded by a plus (+) sign.

Example 1: 0.5 ball handicap
In this example, the underdogs will start the game with a score of +0.5. In effect, this means that there can’t be a draw result when the handicap is included. The favorite will have to win by at least 1 goal to win the bet, while bets on the underdog will win with any other result.

Example 2: 0 ball handicap
IIf the two teams are evenly matched, a 0 ball handicap will be offered. In this case you can bet on either team to win the match. If the match ends in a draw all bets are refunded.

Example 3: 1 ball handicap
In this example, the favourite will start the game with a score of -1. This means that the favourite must win by 2 or more goals to win the bet. The bet will be refunded if the favourite only beat the underdogs by 1 goal. Conversely, the underdog will win the bet if only they win or draw the match, while the bets will be refunded if the favourite only beat the underdogs by 1 goal.

Note: You must either deduct the handicap from the favorite or add it to the underdogs’ final score – not both.

Split Handicaps
Split handicaps are two handicaps rolled into one. The best way to understand this type of handicap is to imagine that the player has had two separate bets, with the stake being split equally between the two handicaps. This can result in the following scenarios:
  • Full Win: both bets win
  • Half Win: One bet wins and the other bet draws (stake returned)
  • Half Lose: One bet draws (stake returned) and the other bet loses
  • Full Loss: Both bets lose
Live Betting (‘In-Play’ or ‘Running Ball’)
The only difference between Live Betting and pre-game betting is that there may have already been goals scored in the match. At the point that a player places a bet, the current score in the match will also be recorded. For the purposes of the bet, any goals already scored are treated as being irrelevant and only scores placed after the bet count for the outcome of the wager. i.e. players are betting on the remainder of the match only.

Note: In Under and Over Live betting, players are betting on the total number of goals scored in the match during normal time. This means that any previous goals scored in the match are included the outcome of the wager.
Multiples

Multiple bet types allow you to select a series of two, three or more single bets from sports and/or racing and combine them to increase your return. The final dividend is determined by multiplying together the odds of each of your selections. There are two variations of multiple betting, Single and Exotic, see examples below

Single Multiple (Parlay, Accumulator or All Up)
In a single multiple, all of the selected competitors must win.

Example:
You bet $10, taking the following three selections:
  • Horse Racing: Yeats to win at 2.20
  • Soccer: England Correct Score 2-0 at 4.00
  • Golf: Phil Mickelson to win at 10.00
Calculating the dividend:
  • To calculate the final dividend the odds of each of the selections must be multiplied: 2.20 x 4.00 x 10.00 = 88.00
Win return:
  • The return is calculated by multiplying the amount bet (stake) by the calculated dividend: $10 x 88.00 = $880. As such, the profit is $870 (return less stake).
Exotic Multiples

Hit the Jackpot, Exotic Multiple betting guarantees a Jackpot Return if you strike gold with 100% winners, but also gives you the security of a payout if just two of your selections win.

The following Exotic Multiple bet types are offered: Trixi, Patent, Yankee, Lucky 15, Super Yankee, Lucky 31, Heinz, Lucky 63, Super Heinz and Goliath.

The Patent: an example of an Exotic Multiple

The Patent is the perfect bet if you have 3 selections. It consists of 7 bet combinations:
  • A Single bet on each of the three selections = 3 bets
  • A bet on each of the 3 possible Single multiples = 3 bets
  • Single Multiple combining all three of your selections = 1 bet
Example:
A $5 Patent on the 3 selections below would cost $35.00, at least 1 selection must win to earn a return:
  • Rugby Union: Australia to win World Cup at 4.00
  • Horse Racing: Yeats to win at 4.00
  • Golf: Phil Mickelson to win at 4.00
Calculating the dividend:
  • 3 x singles @ $5 =$15 (3 x $5 bet at odds of 4.00 – max return: $60)
  • 3 x single multiples @ $5 =$15 (3 x $5 bet at odds of 16.00 – max return: $240)
  • 1 x single multiple combination @ $5 =$5 (1 x $5 bet at odds of 64.00 – max return: $320)
Win return:
  • Any one winner returns: $20 (1 single)
  • Any two winners return: $120 (1 single multiple, 2 singles)
  • All three winners return: $620 (3 singles, 3 single multiples, 1 multi combination)
As such, the profit is $585 (return less stake).

Multiple betting, Australia's fastest growing bet type - here's why...

As a sports and racing fan you will often find 3, 4 or 5 picks that catch your eye, but what is the best staking plan - a single bet on each would be the most simple, but what if they all came up winners?

For a really big return combine your selections with Multiple betting.
Multiple Betting
Multiple bet types allow you to select a series of two, three or more single bets (sports and/or racing) and combine them to increase your return. The final dividend is determined by multiplying together the odds of each of your selections. There are two variations of multiple betting, Single and Exotic, see below:
Single Multiples (Accumulator/All Up)
In a Single Multiple, all selections must win. The maximum number of selections within the one multiple is limited to 16.

Example:
You bet $10, taking the following three selections:
  • Horse Racing: Weekend Hussler to win at 2.20
  • Soccer: England Correct Score 2-0 at 4.00
  • Golf: Phil Mickelson to win at 10.00
Calculating the dividend:
  • To calculate the final dividend the odds of each of the selections must be multiplied: 2.20 x 4.00 x 10.00 = 88.00
Win return:
  • The return is calculated by multiplying the amount bet (stake) by the calculated dividend: $10 x 88.00 = $880. As such, the profit is $870 (return less stake).
Exotic Multiples

The following Exotic Multiple bet types are offered: Trixi, Patent, Yankee, Lucky 15, Super Yankee, Lucky 31, Heinz, Lucky 63, Super Heinz and Goliath.

  • A Single bet on each of the three selections = 3 bets

Example:
A $5 Patent on the 3 selections below would cost $35.00, at least 1 selection must win to earn a return:
  • Rugby Union: Australia to win World Cup at 4.00
  • Horse Racing: Weekend Hussler to win at 4.00
  • Golf: Phil Mickelson to win at 4.00
Calculating the dividend:
  • 3 x singles @ $5 =$15 (3 x $5 bet at odds of 4.00 – max return: $60)
  • 3 x single multiples @ $5 =$15 (3 x $5 bet at odds of 16.00 – max return: $240)
  • 1 x single multiple combination @ $5 =$5 (1 x $5 bet at odds of 64.00 – max return: $320)
Win return:
  • Any one winner returns: $20 (1 single)
  • Any two winners return: $120 (1 single multiple, 2 singles)

Asian Handicap or Asian Line Betting is a bet type that offers a better chance of winning than conventional fixed betting odds. Asian Handicap originated in Asia and today is taking Europe by storm.

Canbet has the largest selection of Live Asian Handicap markets in the world - Join Now

Asian Handicaps are the smart way to bet on soccer:
  • You have a 50% better chance of winning than with traditional odds
  • You bet on only two outcomes, the home or away team, the draw is eliminated
  • You will get more frequent returns from your stakes
  • You can win your bet even if your team draws or loses the match
  • Canbet has the largest selection of Asian H’cap and Live Asian H’cap markets in the world
The Handicap
The handicap is given in an attempt to make the two teams equal for betting purposes. The Handicap is given as head start to the underdog, so they have a virtual lead in the game. For example with 1/2 goal (0.5), 1 goal (1), etc. For betting purposes, the winning team is decided on the final score, after 90 minutes (normal time) after taking the handicap into account.

There are two types of Asian Handicaps, Single handicaps and Split (Double or Quarter) Handicaps, this is explained in the examples below.

The Favourite
The favourite has to overcome the indicated handicap, and will have it taken away from its final score. The handicap for the favourite is preceded by a minus (-).

The Underdog
As the underdog is given a head start, they will have the handicap added to its final score. The handicap for the underdog is indicated by a plus (+).
Single Handicap
Example: 0.5 ball handicap
The underdogs will start the game with a score of +0.5, which then means there can’t be a draw result when the handicap is included. The favourites have to win by at least 1 goal to win the bet, while bets on the underdog win with any other result.

Example: 0 ball handicap
If the two teams are evenly matched a 0 ball handicap would be offered. In this case you can bet on either team to win the match. If the match ends in a draw all bets are refunded.

Example: 1 ball handicap
The favourite will start the game with a score of -1 which then means, the favourite has to win by 2 or more goals to win the bet, while the bet will be refunded if the favourite only beat the underdogs by 1 goal. Conversely, the underdog will win the bet if only they win or draw the match, while the bets will be refunded if the favourite only beat the underdogs by 1 goal.

Please Note: you must either deduct the handicap from the favourite or add it to the underdogs final score - not both.
Split (Double or Quarter) Handicap
The best way to understand this type of handicap is to imagine you have two separate bets with your stake being split equally between the two handicaps, this can result in the following scenarios.
  • Full Win: Both bets win
  • Half Win: One bet wins and the other bet draws (stake returned)
  • Half Lose: One bet draws (stake returned) and the other bet loses
  • Full Loss: Both bets lose
Example: 0.5/1 ball handicap
With a handicap of 0.5/1, half your stake will be at a 0.5 ball handicap, and half at a 1 ball handicap.

Argentina (- 0.5/ -1) @ $1.95
Germany (+ 0.5/+1) @ $1.95

A stake of $100 on Argentina (-0.5,-1) means:
$50 of your stake will go on Argentina ‘minus half a goal’ and, the other $50 will go on Argentina ‘minus one goal’. You do not need to place the two $50 stakes separately. This will be automatically recognised by our system when you place your $100 stake.

To work out your return, simply calculate the return from each of the two separate $50 bets. Each bet is calculated in the same manner as a single ball handicap. Thus, if Argentina win the match by one goal, the $50 stake at ‘minus half a goal’ is determined to be a winning bet, and the other half of the wager ($50 at ‘minus one goal’) is determined to be a refund. You will win on your full $100 stake (both $50 bets) if Argentina win by 2 or more goals

Parlay
A parlay is a "selection of two or more wagering outcomes". All of the teams wagered on must win for the play to be active. If any one team loses, the entire wager is lost altogether. You may combine different sports, pointspreads and moneylines in win/loss and/or totals betting. If there is a tie or cancellation, the parlay reverts to the next lowest number. For example, a 3-team parlay becomes a 2-team parlay. In the event of a tie in a 2-team parlay, the play becomes a straight bet.

Round Robin Parlay (3 to 8 teams)
The Round Robin is a wager in which you select from 3 to 8 teams and combine them in as many 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 team parlay combinations as possible.

The Round Robin is an excellent tool to minimize the risk of combining several teams in one parlay while still capitalizing on higher payoffs offered by parlays.

Parlay Rules Apply

You can choose from three to eight teams in a Round Robin, from which a combination of two team parlays apply. The maximum risk in a round robin is calculated by multiplying the maximum number of parlays by the amount you want for each two-team parlay. The maximum win is calculated by multiplying the win of one of the parlays by the total amount of parlays. You may not buy points on any Round Robins. Round Robin wagers from different sports are allowed.
Teasers
A teaser is a selection of two or more outcomes in a single wager in which either the pointspread or total is adjusted in the bettor's favor. Each sport has its own range of points for teaser selections. A teaser adjusts the spread for the favorite so that it decreases the posted spread, or conversely, increases the posted spread for the underdog. If you select a total, the adjustment makes totals higher-to-go-under or lower-to-go-over.

Only the following sports/line-types may be teased:
  • Football spreads/totals by 6, 6.5 or 7 points
  • Basketball spreads/totals by 4, 4.5 or 5 points
